Pease Public Library Food Pantry: The Pease Public Library has a public-access food pantry! Visitors can find this located on the bottom floor of the library across from our book sale room.

“Summer reading: a general review
I absolutely love summer reading. Whether it be for myself as an adult, or for my kids. The library has fantastic events for adults and children, and a HUGE selection of books to choose from for all the exciting squares on adult summer reading! I am very thankful for help from a librarian when looking for a forgotten historical event. Last summer and this summer, I read books that I wouldn’t normally have picked up. The library staff has been encouraging of my kids’ participation in events and book selection. I have looked forward to this summer‘s reading since completing the one last year.”

Children and their adults can join a staff member for stories, songs or rhymes, and a movement activity. 10:15-10:30 is for ages 0-3, and 10:30-10:45 is for ages 3-5.
Wednesdays, August 12 & 26: 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM: Book Buddies
Come read to Jack! Jack is a registered therapy dog and will be coming to the children’s room (with his handler) on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. Reading to Jack is a great way for struggling and reluctant readers to build confidence and for shy kids to talk in a non-judgmental space.
Thursdays, August 6, 13, 20, & 27: 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM: Sensory Play
Join us in the hour before Thursday Storytime for lots of sensory fun! Your child will touch, smell, see and hear so many fun things. Activities may include kinetic sand, soap and water, finger paints, colored ice, and more!

Saturday, August 1: 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM: Cody Wells LEGO Program
Join us for a special interactive presentation by Cody Wells! Cody Wells is one of the most sought-after custom LEGO artists in the country. His clients range from private collectors and celebrities to GOOGLE, the New York Hall of Science, NY/NJ Port Authority (for the 50th Anniversary of the 1964 World’s Fair), and beyond. Cody’s work has been featured on the Steve Harvey Show, Good Day New York, Details Magazine, and numerous other publications. He is an award-winning designer, winning the 2013 BRICKIE at Brickfair – Virginia (featured in “A Lego Brickumentary) in TV & Sci-Fi for his Star Trek Enterprise. Cody’s greatest joy comes from working with children. He works with schools, libraries, museums, and private clients nationwide leading classes, giving talks, and inspiring the next generation of young minds.

Join us for an hour of sensory stimulation for your baby! We will have five separate stations to explore, as well as plenty of room to crawl or toddle or walk. Open to ages 0-3 and their caregivers.
Wednesday, August 5: 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM: Technology Workshop: Android Basics
This workshop is for those who have a new Android mobile device, or are considering getting one, and want to learn more about the basic functions. It will support attendees to get connected, identify common apps, and build confidence in using their device safely. Patrons must bring their own Android phones. Registration is required.

Thursday, August 6: 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM: Who Was John Stark?
While many are familiar with the state motto “live free or die,” few might know about the man, General John Stark, who uttered these words. In this presentation, George Morrison reveals the man – a ransomed captive, Ranger officer, road-builder, lumberman, husband and father, repeatedly called-on to serve but often clashing with authority -- whose phrase has become synonymous with our state. Presented by George Morrison, this New Hampshire Humanities Event is co-sponsored by Pease Public Library and the Plymouth Historical Society. George Morrison earned a B.A. in History at the University of New Hampshire. He served for 27 years as a high school teacher. A long-time researcher of unpublished primary sources, Morrison has contributed to the work of numerous aviation historians and artists in several countries. He is a lifelong photographer, historian, and motorcyclist. Morrison has already traveled over 18,000 miles in the course of researching monuments and memorials, an interest sparked by a puzzling 1918 monument inscription.

Friday, August 7: 12:30 PM - 1:15 PM: Animal Adaptations
What do a turtle’s shell, a skunk’s stripes, and an owl’s talons all have in common? They are all examples of adaptations that help the animal survive. Join a Squam Lakes Natural Science Center naturalist to meet some of our animal ambassadors and discover the adaptations that help them survive and thrive in the wild places they live.

Tuesday, August 11: 6:00 PM - 7:15 PM: Digging Into Native History in New Hampshire
Abenaki history has been reduced to near-invisibility as a result of conquest, a conquering culture that placed little value on the Indian experience, and a strategy of self-preservation that required many Abenaki to go “underground,” concealing their true identities for generations to avoid discrimination and persecution. Robert Goodby reveals archaeological evidence that shows their deep presence here, inches below the earth’s surface. Robert Goodby is a professor of Anthropology at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge. He holds a Ph.D. in anthropology from Brown University and has spent more than thirty years studying Native American archaeological sites in New England. He is a past president of the New Hampshire Archeological Society, a former Trustee of the Mount Kearsarge Indian Museum in Warner, and served on the New Hampshire Commission on Native American Affairs. In 2010, he directed the excavations of four 12,000-year-old Paleoindian dwellings at the Tenant Swamp site in Keene, and his book A Deep Presence: 13,000 Years of Native American History, was published in 2021 by Peter E. Randall Publisher. This event is sponsored by the NH Humanities.

Celebrate the end of our Summer Reading Program with our annual Touch-a-Truck event. Join us from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Plymouth Municipal Airport for lots of trucks and other vehicles to explore! The first hour will be sensory friendly, with no sirens, horns, or lights.

Born in New York City to artist parents, Donald Hundgen attended High School of Music and Art in Harlem and spent family vacations in Wolfeboro, NH. While studying at Plymouth State, he and his wife, Sarah, founded Hundelrut Studio—the creative anchor that transformed his early freelance cartooning and illustration career into a period of deep artistic focus. This exhibition spans his creative evolution from early works to recent pieces and will be on display for the month of August. Join us at Pease Public Library on Thursday August 20th at 6PM for the Artist Reception. Light refreshments generously funded by the Young Ladies Library Association. To explore his art more intimately, visit the Hundelrut Studio Shop + Gallery at 584 Tenney Mountain Highway, Plymouth, open Tuesday through Saturday until September 5th.
